Songs have a unique capacity to communicate the innermost desires of our hearts, and many people have experienced poignant manifestations of the Spirit when singing or contemplating verse. This power of songs, as recorded in scripture, is abundantly apparent in the Old Testament, which contains many more poems than any other work of scripture. It is full of poems that believers have been singing for millennia, the same songs our own hearts often ache to sing—songs of faith and hope, songs of fear and pleading, songs of love and praise. All such songs point us to Jesus Christ.
