This multi-layer, original design, wood plaque is created out of 9 layers of laser-cut birch, stained birch, and cherry woods. The background represents many of the plant and beehive motifs found throughout the Vernal Temple.

Cherry wood is used in the body of the temple to represent the wonderful local red brick that makes this temple so unusual. White board is used in the tower to highlight the contrast with the rest of the building.

Each layer is different than the one above and uses design elements that reflect the unique architectural detail found in this specific temple, an effect that is relaxing and mesmerizing.

Upon its dedication November 2, 1997, the Vernal Temple was unique as the only LDS temple built from a previously existing structure.

Originally, the building served as the Uintah Stake Tabernacle for eastern Utah. The Tabernacle's foundation was constructed of nearby sandstone with walls built of four layers of fired brick from local clay. The building was built with considerable donated labor from the fall of 1899 until it was dedicated in 1907.
