Sopheap Nhem was born in 1989 in a small village near Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and grew up in humble circumstances. When Nhem was fourteen years old, her mother sold a cow to pay for two months of painting lessons for her, which sparked the beginning of Nhem's artistic journey.
In 2015, her work Early Morning with the Savior won the 10th International Art Competition hosted by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. And in 2023, her portrayal of an Apsara dancer was selected to represent Cambodia at the 12 annual Cambodia International Fim Festival.
Her paintings radiate beauty, light, and the elegance of Khmer culture.
