This book details the South American Mission, including the first seven months helmed by Elder Melvin J. Ballard and the remaining nine years led by President K.B. Reinhold Stoof. Both mission presidents were inspiring and had foibles as well. Important questions arose: Should missionaries primarily seek out German speakers in Argentina and Brazil, believed to be descendants of the tribe of Ephraim? Or should missionaries teach Spanish speakers and Indigenous people, preaching the gospel to all peoples regardless of nationality?
The choice they made to expand missionary work outside traditional European converts in South America marked an important turning point. The result was the permanent establishment of the Church in Argentina and the opening of the Church in Brazil. Further, the South American Mission was the foundation for the impressive hundred-year growth and expansion of the Church in South America.
