As far as Kate Erickson is concerned, prayer doesn’t work and testimonies are only illusions. She dismisses her parents as being old-fashioned and far too restrictive.

Unimpressed with either her parents or the Church, 16-year-old Kate turns to friends who do impress her.

To get Kate away from the influence of her friends, Mr. and Mrs. Erickson plan a family vacation and insist that she come.
