A journey into the rugged wilderness of Alaska in search of a lost gold mine has gone bad for Jerry Stone. Betrayed by the love of his life, and Eric Duncan, the son of the man he has gone to help, Jerry is seriously injured as he plunges through the mossy surface of a chilling, black bog. He narrowly escapes a hideous death, through the frantic efforts of his life-long friend David Young, and Rachel Duncan, the beautiful Athabaskan Indian sister of the man who has betrayed him.

Jerry is in agony as he is flown by helicopter to Fairbanks Alaska. Depressed and trapped in a hospital bed more than a thousand miles from home, Jerry begins sinking into a dark and frightening world as he subconsciously builds walls around himself in defense of a life wrought with pain and suffering.

As heartbreak and haunting images from the past threaten to destroy all that Jerry has ever worked for and dreamed of, two hands, one soft and gentle, the other unseen, guide his way. Now, Jerry must look beyond the darkness that surrounds him. And he must fight beyond his endurance against harsh and bitter elements in another life and death struggle, if he is to find the dreams he has lived, and nearly died for.
