Twelve-year-old Carrie O'Brien desperately needs a place to practice her trumpet where she won't disturb people in her apartment building. One day she hears piano music coming from Three Oaks, an old mansion across the street, and decides to approach the estate's elderly mistress, Mrs. Markowski, about practicing there. But there’s something very mysterious going on at Three Oaks. Rumor has it that the mansion is haunted by the ghost of an artist who died 50 years earlier after hiding a valuable treasure “between the wishing well and the third oak.”
