At the turn of the century a small number of missionaries found and taught a relatively small number of converts in several East Texas counties and laid the groundwork of the Houston Temple District. In 1901 missionaries and members constructed the first Log Church buildings in the state in Williamson Settlement and at the Kelsey Township, with a conference attended by the mission president in November of that year in Williamson. The missionaries served without purse or script, braved malaria and persecution and through their perseverance and dedication established a foundation of faith in the wilderness of Texas. This is their story.
