As a part of its 140th anniversary the Relief Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints began a Legacy Lecture series in March 1982. Many women have been invited to share their talents and skills, illustrating the great contribution of the women of the Church. They subjects of the lectures represent choices they've made and the diligence and dedication they've shown toward achieving excellence. Housework "is variously called scut work, or work that that any unskilled laborer could do. It is work that few notice or appreciate unless left undone." Depreciated in much of contemporary women's literature, it has sometimes been referred to as the lowest status. In contrast to this flow of misinformation, Kathleen Slaugh's authoritative lecture is a real measure of homemaking both in economic terms and in terms of the rich family fabric that is the strength of society. She also, pointedly, extends the responsibilities and blessings of making a home to husbands and children.
