Throughout history, lighthouses have guided seafaring travelers away from danger to safe passage. In this address to the 1997 BYU Women's Conference, Mary Ellen Smoot speaks of the spiritual beacons that light our earthly journey. They rely on the source of all light, Jesus Christ.

President Smoot testifies that the living prophet and the Church are a beacon to the world and shares the words of prominent people who have told her their positive impressions of the Church and of its members.

She pays tribute to her pioneer grandmother, describing her as "a beacon of light to her posterity." President Smoot cautions against the distractions of the world and the deterioration of families. "There is a no...more profound impact for good on society than a mother spending loving time nurturing and training a child."

With humility and encouragement, she challenges all women in the Church to rejoice in who they are and stand united as powerful beacons of the Savior's light.
