The Vernal Utah Temple in eastern Utah was created using a transparent technique and pencil, and is one of a series created by the artist Chad S. Hawkins. In 1989, at the age of seventeen, Chad started this unique temple series becoming the original LDS artist to involve hidden spiritual images in his artwork. The original of this painting was selected to be on permanent display inside of the Vernal Utah Temple.

Since 1907, one of the most prominent landmarks in the lovely Ashley Valley has been the historic Uintah Stake Tabernacle. The pencil drawing at the bottom is a depiction of an actual photograph taken at the conclusion of one of the dedicatory services.

The Vernal Utah Temple is the first temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to be constructed out of an already existing structure. In this piece of artwork, the artist depicts both the historical tabernacle in black and white as it appeared when it was dedicated in 1907, and the beautiful modern-day temple in full color upon its dedication in 1997. The two circles with the respective dedicatory years are located on the west end of the temple. In the clouds above the temple, the Savior appears with his arm outstretched, inviting each of us to partake in the blessings of the temple.
