And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him. — Matthew 3:15-16 Although Christ was without sin, and therefore had no need to be baptized, he was our perfect example and was baptized by John to fulfill all righteousness. He wanted to show us how important it is to be born again of the water and by so doing demonstrated that He is willing to submit to the will of the Father to carry out the proper order of things.
